| SOCIETY OF PAINTING AND DRAWING LOVERS was created on July 27, 2004 by painters Ivan Sotnikov and Aleksandr Florensky during their joint voyage to the Solovetsky Islands. The task set by the Society is the propaganda of completely disappeared from modern artistic practice such part of work as painting and drawing from nature.
At the exhibition in “Borey” there will be linoleum engraving, monotypy and etchings of 2007-2008 made by painters I.Vasilieva, A.Dashevsky, A.Kuznetsov, I.Sotnikov, O.Florenskaya and A.Florensky on teh base of drawings from nature.
A significant part of the exhibited prints were produced on the homemade etching press which was used in the creative work of many Petersburg artists. This press was made on the request of its first owner Aleksandr Arefiev (presumably in the end of 1960s). After the emigration of Arefiev, the press stayed in the propriety of Anatoly Basin, then it passed to Cyrill Miller (in the flat of Miller on this press worked C.Miller, V.Afonichev, E.Zaitsev, D.Shagin, I.Sotnikov, A.Florensky and others). In 1980, the press was purchased by Aleksandr Florensky in the atelier of whom it was used in 1980-2007 by A.Florensky, O.Florenskaya, M.Ivanov, R.Vasmi, A.Kuznetsov, I.Sotnikov, I.Vasilieva, A.Semitchov, A.Goryaev, G.Ustiugov, V.Golubev, S.Sveshnikov and other painters. Since December 2007, the press has been being in the propriety of Ira Vasilieva.
