"THE SOUL OF THE CITY " Photography Small hall | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Alik Yakubovich, an amateur photographer and therefore a poet (or maybe vice versa?), was born in 1958 in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod). In 1978 he saw photos by the Leningrad photographer Boris Smelov in the magazine “Sovetskoye Foto” (Soviet Photo), after which he quit the Medical Institute and devoted himself to photography. In 1999 being in St. Petersburg on a business trip he saw a reflection of the Saviour-on-the-Blood Cathedral in the Neva river – and spent hours standing there looking at it. That was the start of his project “The soul of the city”, which got its continuation in Yalta, Istanbul, Nizhny Novgorod. At present the author is working over social projects “Young lads”, “The days of the city” and his third book of acoustic photography. Personal exhibitions of Alik Yakubovich have taken place in Arles, Mont Pelee, Wales, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod , Izhevsk, Dmitovgrad, Novocheboksarsk, Yasnaya Polyana. Alik Yakubovich lives in Nizhny Novgorod and works as the creative director at his agency. |
